Allegany County Sheriff s Office drone aids in Alma rescue

The Sheriff’s Office obtained the drone about three years ago with a Homeland Security grant. Whitney estimated it cost between $40,000-$50,000. The sheriff said the drone has been requested a handful of times in search operations.   “We can use it for just about anything,” said Whitney. “We can also use it for our mapping department to look at something, or if an area is flooded or something like that we could get in and assess the situation.”  The night vision proved essential when navigating the Allegany County countryside.  “It gets pretty dark in Alma. There’s not many street lights up there,” the sheriff quipped.

Some residences would be rezoned into the business district The Wellsville Daily Reporter WELLSVILLE Jones Memorial Hospital’s $16.8 million Transformation Grant has revealed a misdiagnosis of the zoning district map in the Village of Wellsville.  As the hospital prepares to embark on the start of construction in June, officials discovered part of the project area is currently zoned for residential use rather than commercial. The discrepancy includes the former Haag medical office building and the adjoining parking lot now owned by the hospital. The area is scheduled to be utilized as a staging area for construction crews in the coming months.
