Back in the day | News, Sports, Jobs - The Herald Star

To the editor: In the 1950s, the Herald-Star did not have a Sunday edition. So we subscribed on Sundays to the Pittsburgh Press, which was always a welcome addition to our home. It was a joy to get something from the big city. Dad always got the front section first and the rest of us scrambled to get the newspaper. It was a family tradition, something eagerly shared together, each of us reading in silence and occasionally making some quip, especially the funnies. It was an opportunity to discuss the arts and culture, the sciences, museums, sports, entertainment and so much more. Also pre-cable TV, along our creek we had better reception from three major networks through Pittsburgh than from WSTV-TV just over the next hill.

Songs to check out from local songwriters Joel Lindsey & Justin Wade

Everyone s itching to get out of the house, but there s something to be said for hurrying home to the one you love. Justin Wade reminds us of that joy and anticipation in Lonely Road, a single released Thursday by his country-rock band. With a proper longing in his voice, Wade imparts the point of view of a man ending a work-related journey and eager to scurry home to his wife, imagining a scenario with  our bodies colliding/the temperature s rising.   Hmmm, so some sort of couples yoga or exercise routine, right?  As a working musician, you spend a lot of time on the road, Wade, of Chippewa Township, said.  Before COVID, we were averaging 100 shows a year. That means a lot of time away from the ones you love. That was the inspiration behind this song. So many late nights driving home from a show on the road with the feeling of not being able to wait to get home to my wife.

Dwight Rhoden residency comes at the right time for CSU dancers

While so many performing arts opportunities have been halted due to the pandemic, the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Colorado State University is thrilled to offer dance majors a virtual residency with Dwight Rhoden, co-founder and co-artistic director of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, located in New York City, New York. For Madeline Harvey, assistant professor of dance, CSU dance majors have shown remarkable resilience, flexibility, and humanity amidst the upheaval caused by the pandemic. Their work and spirit reminded Harvey of Rhoden’s choreography.
