Reporter monday mornings are tough enough, michelle, as bart delays on top of that, yeah, they are a little frustrated out here this morning and rightfully so because bart officials still dont have an answer as to why last weeks power surge happened so yet again east bay commuters are dealing with commute delays. Lets talk about where this is happening. We are focusing right now on two stations, the North Concord stop where we are this morning and pittsburg bay point. This is where services were stopped and budge bridge to shuttle commuters between the two stops. Bart says they have been testing the tracks for days now and yesterday after continuing to examine where the power surges happened bart still didnt have a reason for this disruption. So some morning commuters arent thrilled with the prolonged delays and lack of answers.
Major problem that stranded thousands of east bay commuters. Tara moriarty is joining us live at the Pleasant Hill bart station to tell us what went wrong and how it has been fixed. Good morning, tara. Reporter good morning. Bart officials earlier this morning announced that service is restored to normal on the pittsburg bay point line. While they wont say exactly what prompted this problem to begin with, they will say a thorough investigation is done. Sometime shortly after 5 00 last night trains were being single tracked past walnut creek. That is when a piece of a train wheel was found on the damaged tracks just north of the pleasant held station. Bart ordered a complete shut down of service between walnut creek and concord. This is all because of a damaged rail and damaged trackway. We had a train that somehow got out of service and caused some sort of damage to both trackway and the third rail at an interlocking and it was at a place that is called a cross over which impacts both
Process of being cold. The coroner removed the body and the identity of the person is being determined. You can see the moments after this happen from video. The transit bus was traveling eastbound on davidson drive at 5 45 this morning and the car was headed northbound with the bus driver reporting the car pulling right in front of him at the intersection. The bus driver tried to swerve. He crossed the center divide, hit the car and ended up on a hill. The impact crushed the saturn. The vehicle involved did have a stop sign. Upon impact it appears the driver was ejected. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The bus ended up on the embankment. We had five passengers on the bus plus the driver. The passengers did suffer minor injuries. The driver was not injured but obviously, is distraught over what occurred here. Four of the passengers were taken to a hospital. Caltrain has two trains that will pick up bart passengers in milbrae. Those folks will were helped out. Other folks my have to use another form of mass transit or casual car pool or drive your own car. 580 westbound from tracy to dublin is 38 minutes and highway 4 westbound antioch to concord is 4 minutes and 101 southbound from san rafael to San Francisco is 17 minutes and with the wind we have a lot of debris causing slow downs. So far, we have not been hearing of any major accidents so we will hope it stays that way and we start the weekend off on a good foot. Live doppler 7 hd shows radar satellite returns and we do not see any radar runs because it is looking dry. We did have rain early this week which we desperately needed and now everything is cleared with dry cdionons. With that we have plenty of wind and to the bay bridge it is bouncing upanddown and that is because we have some of our highest winds in the east bay. Proceed with caution. Here. There are some delays and the train is not here yet for the 6 00 a. M. San franciscobound train. This is what caused the problems. The fire was out and the train was evacuated but they had to spend the night taking equipment apart to move the equipment out of the way from the fire. It was a very complex project and took all night. Now we can move the train to the yard. We have to clean the rail. This is no damage to the rail. That is the good news. The commute is delayed at three to five minutes on the trains headed into San Francisco. There is supposed to be one at 6 00 a. M. And it is now here. As the morning progresses the delays could build. You can see there are a few passengers waiting for the 6 00 train that is still not here. Land to have some delays.
