Saint Vincent College goes into lockdown as covid-19 numbers surge

Saint Vincent College went into lockdown status Thursday evening as the number of covid-19 cases on campus surged. College President the Rev. Paul Taylor ordered the campus community to shelter in place and all classes to be conducted remotely as of 3 p.m. Thursday. His order came as the campus community prepares for finals. Taylor said a sudden spike in symptomatic and asymptomatic cases triggered the decision. He did not say how many cases had been identified on the small Unity campus just outside of Latrobe that is home to the college and seminary.

The 18-year-old Fox Chapel resident earned a Stamps Scholarship worth more than $160,000 through the University of Pittsburgh. The full-ride award covers four years of tuition, mandatory fees, room and board, and also includes access to a discretionary fund that can help pay for study abroad.
