Dog of the Week
They say Canis is not too fussy and gets along well with humans and other animals.
“He’s very good with riding in a car, dog selective, seems to only like females, a little too much for cats, and child friendly. Seems to do well with other people. Friendly as well,” Doug McQuaid -a volunteer at the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center said.
He is affectionate and enjoys getting pampered every once-in-awhile, and since he has been at the shelter, Canis has even been treated to a spa day.
“One of our volunteers actually took him out for a spa day. So she said when she took him home and gave him a bath and gave him a big walk and so forth. And then basically after that Canis came in and sat down and pretty much watched TV the rest of the time,” McQuaid recalled.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Thanks to the volunteers who are devoted to helping these animals get adopted by loving families like you. It takes a significant amount of time and dedication to volunteer at the animal rescues listed below.
Before adopting a new fur friend, volunteers organize pet events every week in and around the borough, send out announcements, hold fundraisers, help with supplies, clean cages, feed animals, make sure a pet’s medical needs are attended to and so much more. All of this is done without pay, all for love, and behind the scenes.
Copper is approximately 8 years old but still has so much pep to his step!
His owner is going through a financial hardship and currently does not have a home where Copper can reside. We are looking for a forever home or foster for Copper ASAP.
What his owner says about this big sweet boy:
“He currently lives with children 7 and 11 and loves them! He is good with other dogs, just can’t have toys or bones around them. No cats for this hunk since he’s a bit too interested! He is so sweet and loving, just a lazy big boy who enjoys to cuddles on his bed with his blanket. He is good on leash and enjoys walks. He’s very food motivated and learns quickly. He really is just happy hanging out with his people and relaxing. He can be slow to approach strange men at first - but after sniffing them out his tail then starts to wag!”
