Md Jashim Uddin, a representative of the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association, has been elected president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for 2021-23.
The elected and nominated directors chose the office bearers of the country s apex trade body, including the president and vice-presidents, yesterday.
The new committee will take charge at a ceremony on May 19, said Jashim, also the chairman of Bengal Commercial Bank. Addressing the challenges of the fallouts of Covid-19 facing our businesses would be my priority, he told The Daily Star.

DHAKA, May 9, 2021 (BSS) – Jashim Uddin, vice-president of Bengal Group, has been elected as the new president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for the 2021-23 term.
Election Board Chairman Professor Ashraf Ali announced the results today.
Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, a former vice-president of the federation and former president of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has become the senior vice-president of the new FBCCI board.
MA Momen of Ink Manufacturers Association, Habib Ullah Dawn, a former president of Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association or BARVIDA, and Amin Helali of Printing Industry Association have been elected vice-presidents from the Association Group of the federation.

Thanks to slow progress in construction work, people of Pirojpur will not see their much-awaited bridge on the Kacha river inaugurated this month.
The Eighth Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge, 998 metres in length, was scheduled to be opened this month. With the lion s share of its funding provided by China, its work started in October 2017.
