Trent McKenzie completed the Surf to City fun run in full firefighting gear to raise funds for a friend’s daughter who needs a therapy dog.
Invercargill firefighter Trent McKenzie finished a shift at 7am before turning up at the ICC Surf to City starting line in full firefighting gear. On Sunday, McKenzie cycled the race in his heavy gear – on a particularly warm Southland day – to raise funds for six-year-old Pippa Judd, who is in need of a therapy dog to help her navigate the symptoms of rare chromosome disorder Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. By midday, McKenzie had raised about $2000, but he said it was a fraction of the $17,500 Pippa needed and fundraising would be ongoing.
