Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra has signed a supply agreement with Germany-based Volkswagen Group for components for its INGLO platform. The deal will equip certain ranges of the electric platform with electric components from Volkswagen s MEB and unified cells. The supply deal will span several years and have a lifetime total volume of around 50 GWh.
Mahindra & Mahindra expects electric vehicle production at its upcoming plant in Chakan in Maharashtra to hit peak production mark of 2 lakh units per annum between 2027 and 2029, according to company President -Automotive Sector Veejay Nakra. The company estimates that EVs would account for 30 per cent of the overall volumes by 2030.
Indian automaker Mahindra plans to launch five all-new electric SUVs over the next four years before electrifying its existing portfolio. The company will create a new EV-only brand called BE, coexisting with the XUV brands. Mahindra expects up to 30% of all the SUVs it sells in India over the next five years to be EVs. The first model, the XUV.e8, will hit the market in late 2023. Each of the BE and XUV EV models will have a range between 650 km and 675 km, with battery capacities of 62 kWh and 80 kWh, respectively.
