With the recent announcement that the Pineger Youth Centre will be closing at the end of April, Josee Merrick, a retired addiction counselor and member of the Kirkland Lake Opioid Overdose Prevention Task Force, is calling on the provincial government to make it possible for the facility to become a withdrawal management (detox) facility.
“The closure of the youth justice facility is a perfect opportunity for our government to re-direct some of those funds and make access to residential substance use treatment equitable for the people of Timiskaming”, Merrick says
