After Apex Friendship scored with just a few seconds left to tie the game before halftime, Pinecrest scored quickly in the second half to set the tone for the rest of the game. Head coach Chris Metzger said that score was crucial for the Patriots.

Apex, N.C. Pinecrest is on to the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4AA state playoffs after a 24-17 win over Apex Friendship on Friday night.
The Patriots struck first. After holding Apex Friendship to three and out on its first possession, Pinecrest used a double pass to get in scoring position. Jacob Prevatt completed a pass to Hunter Neifert, which setup a six-yard touchdown run by Georgio Najm two plays later.
Apex Friendship answered the touchdown with a 24-yard field goal by Alan Josephson, but Pinecrest led 7-3 after one quarter.

Southern Pines, N.C. What started as a blowout finished as a nail-biter for Richmond.
The Raiders watched a big, early lead dissipate and then had to rally to defeat Pinecrest in overtime, 42-35 on Friday night. The win was the season opener for No. 3 Richmond (1-0, 1-0 Sandhills Athletic Conference) and second for Pinecrest (1-1, 1-1).
Richmond held a 21-0 lead with just 6:32 left until halftime thanks to three scores from three different players a 7-yard run by Jaron Coleman, a blocked punt in the end zone by Gabe Altman, and a 4-yard run by linebacker C.J. Tillman from the wildcat formation.
Cardinal Gibbons routs Pinecrest, returns to first title game since 2015

Southern Pines, NC The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders swept the Pinecrest Patriots on the road on Tuesday night to advance to the 4A state championship match.
Gibbons came out of the gates dominant, as it stormed out to a 25-11 win in the first set with relative ease.
The second set ended with the same score, but started with a 4-0 run by Pinecrest, a sign that the battle-ready Patriots weren t going to go down easily.
The offensive attack made up of junior setter Celia Ryan and outside hitter and University of Delaware signee Emily Chrysogelos was effective throughout the match, and the duo was instrumental in helping the Crusaders to two lopsided set wins.
