Possums near Dunedin to be targetted after two herds infected with TB

Fight to control possums near Dunedin continues

Pest contractors would work in Swampy Ridge, Pineapple Track, Flagstaff and Nicols Falls from early May to June 30. OSPRI lower South Island general manager Vivienne Larsen said: “We’re on the pathway to eradicate bovine TB. We need possum numbers to be at sustained low levels for at least three years. “We know the area is popular for walkers – we frequently use it ourselves – and we’ve taken great care to mitigate risks to pets while still performing effective and essential possum control.” Supplied A possum approaches a trap in this file photo. Larsen said the toxins being used posed an extremely low secondary poisoning risk to pets, but dog owners were urged to keep their pets on leads in areas with warning signs. The precaution would likely be needed until the end of June.

Baldwin Street: A Journey to Thickness (in the Heart and Soul)

Ah Baldwin Street, a Dunedin icon and the disputed steepest street in the world.  Upon recently turning 21, I asked myself a bunch of questions, as any true Pisces would. Who am I and what am I doing? What is life? And am I making the most of it? Most importantly, how can I get triple caked up? Motivated by the threat of time, I decided to embark on an experiment in the hopes of answering these questions. I took my taro legs and trotted up Baldwin St for 30 days. Some of them were in a row, but most of them weren’t, I’m not gonna fake the facts for content.
