A TERRIFYING new venomous tarantula that can live for 20 years was discovered in a US zoo this year.
The Pine Rockland trapdoor spider, or Ummidia richmond, was first spotted in Zoo Miami in Florida in 2012, but scientists didn t confirm that it was an entirely new species until this year.

The shiny, black insects can live for decades hiding in borrows, popping out to subdue prey when it crosses their path. They spend their entire lives in that same burrow, waiting for prey to come past their trapdoor, Zoo Miami conservation chief Frank Ridgley told the Daily Mail.

The spider species, called The Pine Rockland trapdoor spider, Latin name
Ummidia richmond, was first discovered in the pine rocklands that surround Zoo Miami in 2012.
Assistant professor of biology at Piedmont College, Rebecca Godwin, identified the spider as a new species in a study published earlier this month.

There is a new venomous spider that is found in Florida.
The new species is the Pine Rockland trapdoor spider is now officially being recognized as a distinct species.
The first specimen was found by a zookeeper in 2012 in Miami’s Pine Rockland Forest adjacent to the zoo.
The spider is related to tarantulas and as a trapdoor spider hides out in a burrow and waits for prey to come along before ambushing.
Researchers discovered a new species of tarantula that was found on the grounds of a Miami Zoo. New York Post reported that the said species of tarantula is venomous and can live up to two decades.
A zookeeper first spotted the Pine Rockland trapdoor spider at Zoo Miami in 2012, but researchers discovered only this year that the spider is an entirely new species.

With the Latin name Ummidia richmond, the new species looks like a small, shiny, black tarantula, Mail Online reported.
The spider was specifically found in the Pine Rockland forest that surrounds the Miami zoo. The zookeeper took a picture of the specimen for identification. However, the said tarantula did not match with any existing records of known species in the region.
