SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.
One person was killed Monday in a fire at an apartment complex in South Lake Tahoe.
South Tahoe Fire Chief Clive Savacool said firefighters saved the lives of several other residents, including some who were hanging out of second-story windows when crews arrived at the scene at 11:17 a.m.
Six residents were rescued from the second floor and a seventh person escaped on his own from the first floor.
“Although one resident succumbed to his injuries, the quick response and hard work from our police officers, our firefighters and the firefighters from our neighbors, six people are alive and well,” Savacool said in a statement. “This fire could have been much worse.”
