As Pima County continues to ramp up COVID-19 vaccinations at five different distribution sites, it needs a lot more vaccine to adequately immunize the population.
The county usually receives about 12,500 doses per week but has been expecting larger allocations from the state to keep up with demand.
At a press conference Friday, Pima County Chief Medical Officer Dr. Francisco Garcia said the county is expecting 29,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses this week. Garcia contends the countyâs current infrastructure can âeasily handleâ 100,000 vaccines a week.
As of Sunday, the county received107,000 doses and was allocated 136,100 from the state.
Pima County administered 71,890 total doses as of Sunday, for a vaccination rate of 6,882 per 100,000 of the population.

A judge on Tuesday put the brakes on Pima Countyâs mandatory 10 p.m. curfew, saying it violated an Executive Order from Gov. Doug Ducey.
A county spokesman said the temporary restraining order issued by Pima County Superior Court Judge Kellie Johnson prevents the county from enforcing the curfew. The county said it will appeal.
Sharon Bronson, chair of the county Board of Supervisors, said in a statement Wednesday that they are disappointed with the decision and asked for voluntary compliance.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The mandatory curfew in Pima County cannot be enforced, after a judge ruled it unlawful.
On Wendesday, Jan. 20, Superior Court Judge Kellie Johnson granted businesses a preliminarily injunction to remain open past 10 p.m.
Judge Johnson found that not only did the curfew violate Governor Doug Duceyâs executive order prohibiting county curfews, but it also exceeded Pima Countyâs power to enforce it.
