16-year-old walking 1 million steps to raise for Diabetes UK | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

A SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD boy with diabetes is taking on a three month long challenge, walking one million steps to prove that he won t let the condition get in his way . Cyrus Bailey, a student at Woodroffe School Sixth Form is spending his summer walking to raise money for Diabetes UK. He is taking on the one million steps challenge, meaning he will have to walk more than 10,000 steps a day for the next three months. Cyrus, who lives in Pilsdon, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 12. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin.

Mobile homes for continued holiday use at Pilsdon and other planning applications

The latest plans in the Bridport area Three existing mobile homes for holiday use on a site at Pilsdon have become subject to an application for a lawful development certificate. The application to Dorset Council from Purcombe Farm, Batts Lane, also includes the construction and use of what is described as an ancillary amenity building. Forms submitted by Nicholas and Georgina Bailey say the certificate should be granted because the use has continue for ten years or more and the building works were substantially completed more than four years before the date of the application. The site is on the western side of Batts Lane about a third of a mile south of Pilsdon with Shave Cross further along Batts Lane to the south within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A COMMUNITY which provides support to people in crisis has been recognised for its efforts throughout the pandemic. The Pilsdon Community, based in Pilsdon north of Bridport, has received a High Sheriff Community Award for its work in ensuring the safety of those it looks after. The community was established more than 60 years ago to offer refuge to people in crisis. It aims to provide an environment where people can begin to rebuild their live, through a common life of prayer, hospitality and work. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the community has isolated itself for the first time in its history and therefore has been unable to welcome visitors, to protect its members and guests who live there.
