jones will join me onset with another legislative win for his party to tout ahead of the midterms, serving as proof that democracy still works if we wanted to. this is american voices. we begin this hour with breaking news on the fallout from the fbi search at mar-a-lago. just a short time ago, the chairs of the house oversight and intelligence committees requested a damage assessment from the director of national intelligence of the documents seized from donald trump s florida home. in the three-page letter, the chair s request a, quote, classified briefing on the conduct of the damage assessment as soon as possible. nbc news reports the recovered records were 11 sets of classified documents that include some labeled secret and top secret. the fbi also took a handwritten note, binders voters, and other documents. that is, according to a property receipt from the search. all of this unfolds as it all unfolds, trump, along with his loyal allies, continue to attack the
with them. that is essentially the real world plain english explanation for what the statutes all explain. these are documents that have been classified, [inaudible] being classified, they were either top secret or another higher level of top secret beyond that. in any event, they weren t supposed to be in the presidents possession. and the former president and his legal team have now tried to assert that they were be classified documents. but that is a process that has made more steps in [inaudible] just to clear something being declassified. even when you have to classify these documents, just so he wasn t clear, they don t remain in your possession. that doesn t mean that you get to hang on to them. they are not something that is supposed to be in your control. and so there are a number of different potential violations that keep led to this warrant. and let s not forget, there was a subpoena that donald trump and his people blew off before the search warrant was even sought. so, th
scandal. frankly, we are very strong supporters of law enforcement. and it concerns everybody if you see some agents go rogue. and if you see an agency that doesn t have the right checks and balances at the top. this is coming from the top steve, who went rogue, they were following a search warrant we want to find that out. do i know that the boxes of material that they took from mar-a-lago, that they won t put things in those boxes, to entrap him? how do we know? their lawyers weren t allowed to see those boxes. how do we know that they will be honest with us? how do we know what was in the box before left the residents if pillars weren t allowed to see everything? these baseless attacks seem to work, unfortunately, sowing distrust in the government. a political poll conducted this week finds 41% of americans think the fbi search at mar-a-lago was an abuse of power and should be investigated. joining me now, msnbc national security analyst, frank figliuzzi, he s the auth
him yet to say, i had nothing to do with that. i did not have direct access. it was so and so and so in so. because that would obviously put him in greater hot water than he is already in. so, we can t take that route. so, what is he doing? he s essentially saying, look, i declassify these, i tried to make them documents that weren t being categorized as classified and other things. so, i should not be held to the same standard or held, having broken the law. but, in fact, that s exactly what he did. the fact that he may say that i did not know that classification was a more intense, more involved process, does not absolve him from responsibility or criminal liability. and i think that that s part of the decision-making process that merrick garland is engaging in at this point. it s going to be a part of what he is thinking about, in terms of whether he decides to bring charges against donald trump, for this in particular. frank, i want to talk about another decision that merrick gar
