The Pike County General Health District has partnered with the county’s largest employer, a family resort, township trustees, and others to bring COVID-19 vaccine on-site clinics to its residents, especially the county’s rural population.
On May 15, the health department partnered with the Benton Township Trustees to hold a vaccination clinic at the Benton Township Fire and Rescue Building. The clinic was a success with a great turnout. They were able to vaccinate 59 members of the county’s west side rural population.
Pike County’s largest employer, the PORTS site in Piketon (A-Plant), partnered with the health department to host an on-site clinic where 192 employees of the Department of Energy, Fluor, and other contractors were vaccinated.
The Pike County General Health District released its latest COVID-19 numbers for the county on Monday of this week.
The Health District reported that there were zero new cases in the county as of Monday and there had been three new recoveries and one additional COVID patient had been released from the hospital.
As of Monday there were seven active cases in the county and three COVID patients being hospitalized. As for an update on the vaccination effort, the Health District reports that there have been 12,811 vaccines administered throughout the county to this point.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been a total of 2,439 cases reported in the county and a total of 34 coronavirus related deaths reported in Pike County.
With Springtime now officially upon us, the Pike County Solid Waste District will be sponsoring a variety of environmental cleanup events beginning this month.
The first of these events is the County Wide Appliance and Electronics Clean-up Event, which is going on now through April 16. This event is being held by the Pike County Solid Waste District Office, and electronic appliance pickup may be arranged by calling the office through 3pm on April 15. The next event that will be held in this series is the Scrap Tire Collection Event. This event will be held on April 17 beginning at 8am and will last until 12pm.
