Fiat Chrysler will build Jeep, Alfa Romeo EVs in Poland
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will modernize its Polish plant to build hybrid and electric Jeeps, Fiats and Alfa Romeos.
The company plans to start production of the first of three new models at its factory in Tychy in the second half of 2022, the automaker said in a statement on its Polish website on Dec. 29.
The models will include full-electric cars, FCA said.
The investments are the “fulfillment of the promise to strengthen FCA’s operations in Poland made two years ago during the presentation of our business plan,” the automaker’s Europe boss, Pietro Gorlier, said in the statement.

MILAN Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will launch three new SUV models for its Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands this year, as the automaker expands its presence in the growing segment.
Alfa Romeo will add the Tonale compact SUV positioned below its midsize Stelvio in its lineup; Maserati will draw on the Stelvio’s underpinnings for the midsize Grecale, giving the brand a lower-priced alternative to the Levante; and Fiat will build a convertible version of the small 500X, the brand’s only SUV.
If anything, history has taught us that open-top SUVs aren’t the best investments when it comes to launching new products.
Nevertheless, Volkswagen already has the segment to itself with the T-Roc Cabriolet, and now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has reportedly approved the 500X Convertible for production.
The folding roof variant of 500X was announced to suppliers last month by Pietro Gorlier, FCA Europe’s chief, Italian news reports revealed, and this week, the information was confirmed to AutoNews by a spokesperson.
In order to minimize production costs, the 500X Convertible (name unconfirmed) is understood to feature only a few mods over its fixed-roof sibling. Insider sources have allegedly confirmed that it will use the same body panels as the regular 500X, and will add a folding soft top with a glass rear window.
