Prescribed burns today at Pierces Creek and Hume
The ACT Parks and Conservation Service wishes to advise that, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions, two prescribed burns will start today (28 April 2021) at Pierces Creek and Hume.
The 5.36 ha burn at Pierces Creek is being undertaken to restore native grasslands and provide protection to a significant cultural site.
The 17 ha Jerrabomberra Grasslands East burn is being conducted to increase native plant diversity and remove thatch.
Experienced ACT Parks and Conservation fire managers will conduct and oversee the burning operation. Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke, but temporary smoke cover is possible and maybe visible across parts of Canberra.
