Show Transcript TAKEOFF. WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS TONIGHT A PENDLETON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WAS KILLED IN A CRASH THIS AFTERNOON. THE CORONER HAS NOW IDENTIFIED HIM AS 17 YEAR OLD ZACHARY JAMES LONG THIS CRUSH HAPPENED ON PICKENS DRIVE NEAR SERGEANT DRIVE JUST BEFORE FOUR OF THIS AFTERNOON. THE CORNER TELLS US THE TEENAGER LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AT OVERTURNED HIT A POLE THERE. THE CORNER SAYS ZACHARY WAS ON HIS WAY TO WORK WHEN IT HAPPENED AND HE DIED THERE AT THE SCENE. A high school student died Monday afternoon in a collision on Pickens Drive near Sargent Road east of Pendleton.
Zachary James Long, 17, of Pendleton, was identified as the driver of the motorcycle by the Anderson County Coroner s Office.
Long attended Pendleton High School where he was a junior.
Principal Brian Couch said Long had one of the best smiles in a statement on Anderson School District 4 s website. His smile would light up an entire room. He had plans to go to Tri-County Tech next year and start the wielding pathway program. He will be greatly missed by his classmates, the statement from Couch said.
