The program’s success can be attributed to its founder, Shirley Watterston. With a bit of arm twisting, the SFA Music Prep founder and former director tickled the ivories to show her support for music education. “I can remember the beginning so vividly. And it’s hard to believe it’s been 40 years.” From the beginning, the goal remains ‘teach children music’.

$56,000 awarded in 13 community grants The Salina Journal The Greater Salina Community Foundation recently awarded  $56,378.90 to 13 charitable projects and organizations in Saline County. This round of grants was made possible by four funds at the community foundation: the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which supports projects and programs that improve the community’s quality of life; the Fund for Early Childhood Care, Education and Development, established by Mark and Jane Berkley to better prepare children in Ottawa and Saline Counties for kindergarten; the Kansas Health Foundation Fund, which supports the public health of Saline County; and the L.P. “Pat” Mullen Fund, which supports hands-on learning opportunities for youth in the areas of arts and humanities and science, technology and invention.

WIU Community Music School Offering Adult Group Piano Classes - Western Illinois University News

February 9, 2021 MACOMB, IL- Western Illinois University s Community Music School (CMS) is offering adult group piano classes starting Wednesday, March 3. The class is designed specifically for adults to learn in a fun, no pressure environment, and is geared toward beginners with little or no prior experience in piano. Classes are offered for ages 18 and up, and will be held every Wednesday at the Piano Lab in Browne Hall, room 213, from 5:30-6:20 p.m. Topics to be covered in class include basic rhythms, music reading and keyboard patterns. The cost for Spring 2021 classes is $150 for a 10-week session (March 3 - May 5), plus a textbook (Alfred s Basic Adult All-in-One Course, book 1). Participants must have a keyboard or piano available for home practice.
