Disney s Flora and Ulysses is a directionless tale that fails its superhero

Highlander Courtesy of Disney Plus Superheros are often revered by audiences for providing a beacon of hope when the entire universe seems to be engulfed in darkness. The DC and Marvel universes are well known for their myriad of superheroes, and Disney adds “Flora and Ulysses” to the superhero list. Based on the book by Kate DiCamillo, the film brings a new member to the superhero medium with a not so tragic backstory: a squirrel. Despite having great performances, the film is an altogether disarray, suggesting Disney’s running out of ideas.   With a dad (Ben Schwartz) struggling to write his next hit superhero comic book and dealing with her parents’ separation, Flora (Matilda Lawler) adopts a pessimistic nature and loses hope. Soon enough she discovers that he has unique superhero powers that take them on an adventurous ride. REVIEW: ‘Flora & Ulysses’ is the story of an avid comic book fan and a cynical girl, Flora Buckman (Matilda Lawler). Despite the contract, her mother Phyllis (Alyson Hannigan) makes her sign a deal that loosely translates to this: turn her face away from the comics. A feisty Flora avidly follows her superhero’s adventures and lives in her imaginative world. Phyllis is a struggling romance novelist who seems to be in love with her books more than her family. However, Flora always misses her father George (Ben Schwartz) and the superheroes comic scripts he had created that unfortunately couldn’t get published. One day, in the wake
