beach? is it 10 or 11? in gilgo beach it s 10 or 11, depending upon it is actually 11. those bodies are nine women, a man, and a young child. bill: last question from me. his google searches showed you a lot. you explained this friday afternoon at the press conference. can you elaborate more on what you believe he was looking for as it related to these women? sure. so we have maintained our secrecy because we were afraid that this one person, this killer, would be trying to monitor our investigation through the internet. once we got his google searches we saw it was the case. he was asking questions such as what is the phone evidence in the gill go case? how come they can t trace the phones in the gilgo beach case? he is asking questions regarding
costello. that profile matched his wife. bill: you have phone evidence, correct? how could you have cell phone or telephone evidence that goes back 13 years? this is a new style of law enforcement that has been used in courts and we ve seen it in high-profile cases in the last year. how do you get that from 2010? so back in 2012, when a lot of this material was still available, there was an f.b.i. phone expert who went into and drove through the massapequa park area and established a map of the phone cell phone coverage in that area, and he indicated that he showed a small area in this massapequa park neighborhood which indicated that not only was the killer using a phone in that area but one of the victims had used her phone in the area as well. similarly, they went to mid town manhattan and they mapped out
miguel marquez. joining us now is suffolk county district attorney. thank you so much for joining us on this evening. what initially led you to this suspect? was there a first clue that was sort of an aha moment? well, i took office in january 2022. of course the investigation had been go on for about 12 years. so, we did sort of a soup to nuts analysis of the case, and we looked at some of the old evidence. and then we factored in some new evidence, specifically some information with regard to a car that the defendant owned. we were able to plug that into existing phone evidence, as well as some of the hairs that were left on the murder victims. and i think march 14th of 2022 was when we really focused on this defendant. and that had been the first time that this defendant had ever been identified as a suspect in these murders.
increasingly brazen, saying he was using burner phones to search about the investigation itself. with regard to that one taunting that he used a burner phone to call a relative of melissa are telling me, telling that person that he both sexually assaulted and killed her. just shocking. you saw there, thank you so much for joining us on this evening. what a little initially led you to this suspect. was their first clue that was an aha moment? i took office in january of 2022. of course the investigation had been going on for about 12 years so the analysis of the case and we looked at some of the old evidence and we factored into some new evidence specifically, some information with regard to a call that the defender owned existing phone evidence as well as some of the
burner phone, which is prepaid and anonymous. and for each of the murders to get an individual burner phone and he used that to community with the victims. then shortly after, the death of the victims, he would get rid of the burner phone. and right away in december 2012, fbi cast analyst special agents with the cast unit of the fbi, the immediately began looking at that data. they compared the victims phones, with the burner phones and immediately honed in on some similarities. specifically, the massapequa park area. and they look at an area of confluence of four cell towers. and they realize that this had significance because the perpetrator of these crimes, was probably located within this area.
