A sixth young girl has come forward and will be represented in a third lawsuit filed against former Benicia Unified School District teacher Matthew Joseph Shelton and the District, alleging again that she was sexually abused by Shelton while attending school in Benicia in 2019.
A second civil lawsuit has been filed against the Benicia Unified School District and a former Robert Semple Elementary School teacher accused of sexual misconduct that represents three additional plaintiffs who allege they were also abused by their teacher during the 2022-23 school year.
This is not the first time that Shelton has faced these types of allegations. Matthew Joseph Shelton previously faced misdemeanor sexual abuse allegations involving four students while teaching at Phillips Edison Elementary School in Napa back in April 2007.
