With the Gqeberha high court officially embarking on a seven-week recess, with only urgent matters being dealt with, Weekend Post looks back at some of the headline-making stories which shocked the public.
Though he was not one of the shooters, convicted murderer Sibusiso Mchunu should be sentenced to life in prison for his role in a holdup at a Gqeberha bakery which culminated in a shoot-out that claimed the lives of a police officer and four robbers.
He was part and parcel of the brazen daylight robbery of Le Bon Bakery which resulted in the death of four of his co-perpetrators fellow robbers and a police officer, and for that Sibusiso Mchunu was convicted of all their murders.
Le Bon bakery murder accused Sibusiso Mchunu’s alibi, that he was with his father, has raised further suspicions about his whereabouts on the day of the attempted robbery after it was alleged that his father was nowhere near the scene of the incident.
The sole-surviving robbery accused in the bloody shootout at a Gqeberha bakery has claimed cellphone and vehicle tracking placed him near the scene of the crime because he had been driving around looking for the firearm his cousin killed in the crossfire had stolen from his father.
