Incumbent Gloucester County Clerk of Circuit Court Cathy Dale, at a Republican party canvass held Monday, won the Republican nomination for the post in an election to be held in November. Dale became clerk last year after the retirement of Margaret Walker.
Dale outpolled Amy Pierce for the nomination. A release from Gloucester Republican chairman Ashley C. Chriscoe said that of 504 votes cast during the canvass, held at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 62.7 percent or 316 were for Dale and the remainder for Pierce.
“Thank you all for your amazing support,” said Dale, “the turnout yesterday was incredible and I am grateful for each of your votes.”

The Gloucester Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a request from the school board to fund additional appropriation for the Page Ball Field Project. The bids for the project came in over the budgeted amounts set. To finish the project, the schools requested an additional $200,000.
Also, during Tuesday’s meeting, which was held in the colonial courthouse, the board discussed whether to accept or deny funding under the new Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund Award. Under the award, Gloucester could be given $7,254,411 with half of that amount being available to the county now. The second half would be available in 2022.

The Gloucester Board of Supervisors voted to approve a conditional use permit for a utility-scale solar farm during its meeting Tuesday. The farm, located on Daffodil Lane, will be constructed by Strata Solar and will occupy 137.64 acres of land. It is expected to generate 20 megawatts of power.
The topic of solar farming was brought up at the beginning of the meeting by board member Phillip Bazzani, who expressed his opposition to the increase in solar applications in Gloucester. Bazzani had several issues with the construction of the farms, including environmental risk and property value impacts. His biggest concern was the county’s lack of legislation within the county’s comprehensive plan for solar facilities.
