Burlington man charged with intentionally setting 2021 fire

Burlington, IA- A Burlington man is facing arson charges after police say he intentionally set fire to the same home in November and December 2021. 31-year-old Phillip Banks was arrested Friday, and charged with second-degree arson and reckless use of fire or explosives. The Hawk Eye reports that, on December 30th, 2021 Burlington detectives responded to a fire at a home in the 1400 block of Gnahn Street. The home's occupant told police that Banks had become angry that she and a friend were leaving to visit a relative, and learned the house was on fire as they were driving. The occupant also told police that banks had started a fire in the home in November of 2021. In February 2022, police reviewed the report of a fire in the bathtub of the home in November 2021, and investigators determined the fire had been set intentionally. Banks is being held in the Des Moines County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
