DoST-PTRI inks technology business incubation agreement for water-repellant finishing technology

Published January 31, 2021, 1:34 PM Seeking to boost the country’s creative textile economy, the Department of Science and Technology (DoST)-Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) has inked a technology business incubation (TBI) agreement and licensing term sheet with Negros-Occidental based Creative Definitions (CD) for the water-repellent finishing technology. (FACEBOOK / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) DoST Secretary Fortunato dela Peña said TBI agreement is focused on the adoption of the PTRI’s textile finishing technology for CD’s handloom woven products. “Water-repellency functionality will be added to lifestyle products of footwear (under the Lakat brand) and face masks which will provide a differentiating value to the product and increase business opportunities amid these challenging times,” Dela Peña said.

DOST marks PH tropical fabrics month

Published January 20, 2021, 2:42 PM Positive developments in the country’s textile industry, despite the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic will be highlighted with the celebration of the Philippine Tropical Fabrics Month led by the Philippine Textile Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PTRI).   With the theme  “Fashioning Philippine Textiles in the Now Normal and in the Year of the Creative Economy”, DOST-PTRI said that Filipino ingenuity, creativity and passion for creating colorful and uniquely designed fashion ensembles will once again take center stage until January 31, 2021.   The celebration also aims to raise awareness on the use of natural fibers like pineapple, banana, abaca, and the Philippines silk for textile and allied products. In the process, this initiative will bring about the revival and upgrading of the local textile and garment industries that will eventually contribute to the creation of livelihood in the agricu
