National Basketball Association (NBA) G-League Team Ignite member Kai Sotto is coming home to the Philippines to play for Gilas Pilipinas at the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers this February. Sotto is currently training with the NBA Minor League for a shot at being the first Philippines-born athlete to join the NBA professional league. The 18-year-old UAAP Juniors MVP of the Ateneo Blue Eagles first announced in December 2020 his intent to join the national men’s basketball squad in the FIBA tournament, a move that was welcomed by the team and the nation.

The Philippines’ Darius Venerable bagged the gold medal in the recently held 2020 Online World Taekwondo-Asia Championships Poomsae Open. The Philippine National Team member from the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) registered 7.02 points outranking six other taekwondo players in the Men’s Poomsae Freestyle category held in a live-streamed event on December 4, 2020. Venerable, who won a gold medal at the Asian Taekwondo Championships in Vietnam in 2019, beat players from South Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand. The gold medalist, who hails from Candelaria, Quezon, overtook silver medalist Kim Ji Won of South Korea with a 0.22 point lead.
