ILOILO CITY, March 10 (PIA) - - Seven women in public service were the first recipients of the Marilag Award in Western Visayas – an award conferred by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) 6 to recognize and highlight women’s exceptional achievement and commitment which significantly contributed toward making a difference in the lives of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) Feted during the awards ceremony held on March 8 here were Representative Julienne Baronda of the Lone District of Iloilo, Aletha Nogra of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6, Dr. Mary Jane Roches Juanico of Department of Health(DOH) 6, Dr. Maria Socorro Quinon of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, Dr. D’Wanie Conlu of the Bureau of Quarantine – Iloilo Station and Engr. Rufina Aquino of Maritime Industry Authority-6 and Annabelle Rosario Blancaflor of Iloilo City Health Office. 

NCCP condemns attacks against Bakwit schools

The National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) on Tuesday, Feb. 16, condemned the violent intrusion of the elements of the Philippine National Police Regional Office in Cebu into the University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus where the Lumad Bakwit School is taking refuge.

Lockdown kept students from returning to their community

By ANNE MARXZE D. UMIL MANILA – There is no need to rescue the Lumad students at the University of San Carlos-Talamban in Cebu City as they are about to go back into their communities. This is the statement of the University of San Carlos-Talamban (USC) and Societas Verbi Divini (SVD) Philippines Southern Province, host of the Lumad bakwit (evacuees) school after members of the Philippine National Police Regional Office 7, along with members of the local social welfare and development department entered the retreat house where Lumad students were being housed on Feb. 15, Monday. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown imposed last year, students were not able to return to their communities. But with the government’s easing of travel restrictions, the university said plans have been made for their return. Four of the delegates, in fact, have already returned to their respective communities.

Vehicles of 5 cops clamped in intensified anti-illegal parking drive in Cebu City

At least 6 vehicles parked outside Camp Sergio Osme–a Police Regional Office (PRO-7) along Osme–a Ave. were wheel clamped by the Cebu City Traffic Office (CCTO) while Police officers are having an activity inside the camp.
