  Octagon thrilled and hugely grateful for slice of £30 million fund as it battles to survive the pandemic Octagon Theatre THE Octagon Theatre said it is hugely grateful to receive a slice of a £30 million fund to support the arts and culture industry during the pandemic. The theatre, described as Bolton s jewel in the crown will receive £320,000 from the one-off fund which has been set up by the Weston family in response to the impact of Covid-19, which has left theatres battling for survival. The pandemic struck as the Octagon theatre was planning its biggest year since it first opened. It had undergone a multi-million pound transformation and was setting the stage for its grand reopening.

DELIGHTED theatre bosses have received another £500,000 to help the Highlands biggest venue recover from the Covid-19 pandemic s effects. Eden Court, in Inverness, was one of dozens of successful arts organisations to receive a share of £30 million from the Weston Culture Fund. The fund has awarded grants ranging from between £100,000 to £1.5 million, depending on the size of the recipient. And Eden Court s chief executive has promised to steward these funds carefully to ensure the best impact possible after receiving £500,000 – the largest single grant awarded to a Scottish-based organisation. Weston Culture Fund gives UK arts organisations £30m in relief from devastating impact of Covid-19

The MAC arts hub in Belfast has been awarded £696,248 from the Weston Culture Fund to support its recovery costs in the wake of Covid-19 © The MAC Belfast The Wallace Collection in London, Birmingham Museums and Nottingham Contemporary gallery are among more than 100 UK arts organisations that will receive Covid-19 recovery grants from the Garfield Weston Foundation. The foundation, one of the UK’s leading charitable grantmakers, created the one-off Weston Culture Fund last year to help the cultural sector weather the “devastating impact” of the pandemic. Grants ranging from £100,000 to £1.5m were awarded on 1 February, totalling more than £30.2m a 20% increase on the £25m fund initially announced by the foundation in October. Beneficiaries in the visual arts include the Wallace Collection (£205,000), MK Gallery in Milton Keynes (£270,000) and Nottingham Contemporary (£105,890).
