Winning trainer Gordon Elliott. March 4, 2021.
Three-time Grand National-winning trainer Gordon Elliott has been banned from racing for six months – with a further six months suspended for being pictured sitting on a dead horse.
The punishment from The Irish Horse Racing Regulatory Board will also be enforced in Britain.
The British Horseracing Authority have welcomed the decision of the I-H-R-B, but say horses must be moved before Elliott’s ban commences on Monday.
Cheveley Park Stud already removed their horses, but owners like Gigginstown House and Philip Reynolds still have horses in his care.
WLR Racing Correspondent Mark Philips joined Nigel for On The Ball on March 6th to look back at everything that happened with the story this week.
Horse trainer Gordon Elliott turned 43 earlier this week. No doubt, he’s had happier birthdays. The man who left an appalling hostage to fortune, by allowing himself to be photographed astride a dead horse, has seen his world implode over that single image.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board will begin hearing evidence today on the controversial image of trainer Gordon Elliott sitting astride a dead horse which emerged this week.
Widespread condemnation of the picture has followed since Elliott admitted himself that it was genuine and had not been doctored as many social media users had initially theorised when the picture was first shared online.
Irish trainer Gordon Elliott s reputation was in tatters after he was banned from the sport for six months over a shocking photograph of him sitting on a dead horse.
Elliott received a 12-month ban from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board but six months was suspended. He was also fined €15,000 (£13,000).
In a strongly worded statement, the referrals committee of the IHRB said Elliott s actions had damaged the reputation of the Irish racing industry and the thoroughbred industry .
They added that his actions had shown a complete lack of respect for the horse . The IHRB accepted the three-time Grand National-winning trainer felt genuine remorse for the incident, that he accepted his actions had offended many people and that what he had done was wrong and indefensible .
