Dublin Smartphone Film Festival shows quality phone filmmaking is on the rise This year’s festival attracts 200 entries from 25 countries with 82 film screenings Sat, Jan 30, 2021, 20:11 Updated: Sat, Jan 30, 2021, 20:17   In the four years since the Dublin Smartphone Film Festival started, mobile phone cameras have improved immeasurably and so has the quality of films made on them. What was once a scrappy and cheap upstart is now a mainstream means of filmmaking with high-end commercials, music videos and even a Steven Soderbergh feature-length film, High End Bird. Founder Rob Fitzharris started the festival seven years ago when he heard traditional filmmakers complain about the use of mobile phones instead of dedicated cameras to make films.

Annual ‘Press photographer of the year awards to go virtual Reporter:   ); The 43rd annual ‘Press Photographer of the Year Awards’, the annual awards of the Press Photographers Association of Ireland, are to be broadcast live online on February 26 2021 in a specially directed awards ceremony presented by broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan. The awards, which are open to press photographers from across the island of Ireland, are traditionally announced at a gala awards ceremony in February. However, due to the current pandemic, this year the awards will be announced online, showcasing the very best of Irish press photography to a worldwide audience.

Press Photographer of Year Awards to be broadcast live online next month Increase in number of entries, with 109 photographers entering over 2,000 images Sun, Jan 24, 2021, 18:18   The 43rd annual Press Photographer of the Year Awards are to be broadcast live online next month in a ceremony presented by broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan. The awards are organised by the Press Photographers’ Association of Ireland and are open to press photographers from across the island of Ireland. The virtual awards ceremony on February 26th will feature recorded messages from a host of popular Irish figures and stars highlighting the importance of press photography in journalism and society, as a vital visual tool in news, views and information sharing.
