Letter: Time to crack down on cyclists

Letter: Time to crack down on cyclists By Letters to The Argus Something you want to say? Send us your views on the week s news Law-abiding cyclists would have nothing to fear AFTER reading today s Argus and previous editions, I feel it is time someone wrote about cyclists. I know this is going to upset practically the whole of the cycling brigade but it is time someone said something. Agnieszka Merta was pushed off her cycles and the cyclist gave a false name and cycled off. Not quite the same thing, but my wife has almost been knocked over several times while walking along the cliff top at Peacehaven and it is happening more and more all over the city.

Warnings issued following youths life-threatening and mindless pranks across Cumbria

Groups of youngsters are causing mayhem across the county – and councillors are calling on the community for support in halting the anti-social antics. Community figures believe mischievous behaviour has been on the rise since the pandemic hit, with young people finding other sources of entertainment among the lockdowns, closures of social clubs and strict Covid regulations. But the fun-and-games has become more serious than ever. In Raffles, Carlisle, youths have been spotted causing damage to property, kicking moving vehicles and climbing on to parked cars for fun. After hearing of the behaviour, Carlisle Police shared an appeal on social media to “know what your child is up to”.

Spate of bin blazes in Workington sparks warning from fire crews

A fire crew is reminding everyone – especially young people – to stick to Covid rules, following a spate of bin fires during the night. Workington Fire Station has issued the warning after a group of about 10 youths were spotted making their way round Workington between 6.30pm-10.30pm yesterday (December 29). It is believed the group is responsible for setting five bin fires – two on Westfield Bridge, two on Wastwater Avenue, and one in Distington. And after a night of extinguishing the unnecessary and mindless fires, the crew has asked everyone to consider the consequences of their actions. Crew manager, Phil Reay, said: It s a waste of resources, and just mindless vandalism.
