4th of July events Louisville: Best places, events to celebrate

Happy 4th of July! Nothing says Independence Day quite like a fireworks show. To celebrate, here are a few events taking place around Louisville.

the sunrises now, they are a little bit later now, but the sun with the high elevation is really climbing quickly, and it s going to heat us up quickly, too. today, it s going to commence the heat wave. right now around the region, as we look at the view from space, we do have just a few clouds drifting in from the north. otherwise, a mostly clear start, and it s comfortable right now around the region, mostly in the 50s. these dark green areas. and that includes parts of the piedmont of virginia and into the shenandoah valley and the mountains, but closer to washington, all these areas in light green, they re in the 60s. a pleasant start this morning, near 70, though, right by the tidal potomac and by the bay. here s your day planner for this thursday. we are going to be heating up quickly. in fact, by 9:00, near 80, near 90 by noon, and by midafternoon, peaking in the mid-90s, but we ll have low humidity throughout much of the day. by late afternoon and into this evening,

thunderstorms, winds. all right, coming up on 4:31, let s see what mother nature s going to do for us over the next couple days. it s going to melt us! yeah, we have been advertising it, and now it s arriving, the first day of the heat wave is today, although not a lot of humidity, thankfully, but we re going to have hotter weather moving in later this afternoon. right now around the region we ve got a mostly clear sky, just a few high clouds drifting in from the north. those will be with us from time to time throughout the day. right now temperatures around the region are pleasant, off to a beautiful start. not as cool as it has been the last few mornings. right now much of virginia, much of maryland in the low 60s to mid-60s. however, out in the mountains of west virginia, central shenandoah valley, many of those locations are in the 50s right now. reagan national airport is at 72 degrees, and we have temperatures around the bay in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

enjoy it while it lasts. as we take a look outside, things are so, so nice and cool, but like you said, it s only a matter of time before that heat moves in. and these are the final hours of comfort. the final hours. we re counting it down now. the apocalypse. the big heat really is going to be getting here beginning later today, but not a lot of humidity yet. around the region this morning, we ve got a few high clouds coming in over the region. we ve got our sunrise about 45 minutes away. that will be at 5:45 this morning. and temperatures around the region, well, they are pleasant! off to a delightful start this morning, all the areas in light green 60s, dark green 50s. 71 at reagan national on the warm waters of the potomac and it s near 70 with any breeze off the warm waters of the bay. elsewhere, much of the eastern shore just in the low to mid-60s, as is most of virginia and maryland. west virginia, shenandoah valley, many locations in the low 50s this morning

a video of a man preying on the elderly and getting inside senior living facility. more than 30,000 told to evacuate near colorado springs and they are praying their homes will survive the night. i m wendy rieger. and i m jim rosenfield we start tonight with the heat. temperatures will be near $1 100 degrees. last week the temperatures were in the upper 90s but we will be near triple digits. the heat is moving our way as we speak. tomorrow will be a hot day but that s not the hottest of the day. friday is the day to watch the heat. that s why the national weather service issued an excessive heat watch. we could see a heat index approach 110 degrees. that could be friday, saturday, sunday and into early next week. i ll show you how long the heat sticks around in my forecast. tears of joy and appreciation from a man nearly killed by two dogs. news4 was there when he was reunited with the neighbor who jumped in to save his life. shomari stone has our exclusive report. ma
