To the editor:
In the May 6 Independent, Mr. Phil Drietz quotes information gleaned from sites like Answers In Genesis. These sites, like Mr. Drietz, promote the idea of a young Earth.
Their process is to assume their idea is true. One interpretation of Biblical genealogies says the Earth about 6000-years-old. Thus, any contrary statement must be false. By pointing out a few contested areas of science, they claim that all the science is wrong. They conclude that their original assumption, a young Earth, must be true. This is pure circular logic.
When you only look at sites that you agree with you only find information that supports your ideas.

My 4-16 letter detailed 2 reasons why the earth is not billions of years old; here’s another:
Carbon 14 has been detected in diamonds and coal. Conventional geology tells us coal can be up to 300 million years old, and diamonds over 1 billion. No C14 will remain in a sample more than about 100,000 years old.
Is the earth is only about 6,000 years old?
We know from analyzing oilfield records detailing stratified layers of sedimentary rock which span across the globe; that a worldwide catastrophic flood did happen. Human history also mentions the great flood in cultures from around the world, i.e. Chinese, Mayan, Columbian, Powhatan tribe in the U.S., and the book of Genesis. Even evolutionists admit of catastrophic event that caused about 75% of species to go extinct millions of years ago. (They must demand millions of years to make their ‘evolution fantasy-world’ seem believable!).

The Feb. 19, 2021 ‘Amazing science starts on Mars’ stated that scientists believe that if life ever flourished on Mars, it would have happened 3 billion to 4 billion years ago, when water still flowed on the planet. Two assumptions are made:
1. Life just starts up from a few dead chemicals, which amazingly produce self-assembling molecular machinery, ever growing in complexity as it proceeds up the intelligence ladder from microbes to animals and finally humans.
2. Our planet earth and the others have been around for billions of years.
