PANAMA CITY BEACH Local officials hope to improve the city s charter with the help of a new citizens committee.
In a recent city council meeting, officials formed the Citizens Charter Review Committee to study the Beach s charter and suggest ways it could be improved before the municipal elections in April 2022. It s been 50 years since the charter (was) established, (and) it s never had an end-to-end review by the community, said Councilman Geoff McConnell, who will act as chairman on the group. I think this is a good thing to get citizens input on their constitution and decide what they want to do.

During the meeting, Councilman Paul Casto added that while he was in favor of looking into a price for the sirens, he questioned if they would be more efficient than receiving mobile warnings from Alert Bay.
Alert Bay sends text notifications about severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing people and potential evacuations of buildings and neighborhoods, information on its website said. It s currently Bay County s main way of alerting people about tornadoes because no sirens exist in the county. I m open to take a look at it and see, (but) I know it s going to be expensive, Casto said. I don t know if it s going to be . better that (a cellphone) going off in the middle of the night . I m open to seeing how much money we re talking about discussing.
