San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) Chief William Scott and Mayor London Breed are holding a press conference July 12 on public safety and also to tout what SFPD claims is its exemplary new record. Boasts SFPD: “Hailed by the New York Times as a major city department ‘where police reform has worked,’ SFPD continues to break ground with its voluntary Collaborative Reform Initiative and its work on Mayor London Breed’s ambitious Roadmap for Police Reforms. Since 2018, the department has worked in partnership with the California Department of Justice to implement 272 recommendations that aspire to make SFPD a national model of 21st century policing.”

SF Supervisors have failed to act on SFPD failure to complete DOJ COPS by California DOJ deadline

We are urging San Franciscans to contact the Supervisor for their district and to call into the Tuesday, May 25, 2021, Board of Supervisors (BOS) Committee of the Whole to demand the BOS act in holding the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) accountable to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) reform recommendations mandated by the federal DOJ in 2016.
Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community made a presentation to the BOS on Oct. 20, 2020, citing grave concerns about the ongoing lack of action by the BOS and other city officials regarding continued targeting of Black San Franciscans by police. At that hearing, several supervisors expressed concern, and all of them agreed to meet with us afterward.
Why are SF Supervisors hesitant to demand racial equity in policing and hold SFPD accountable?

Virtual press conference Monday, Jan. 25, 12–1 p.m. –

Despite a year of reinvigorated uprisings calling for the end of anti-Black racism, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ (BOS) actual lawmaking has all but ignored opportunities to address racism in San Francisco. The BOS Committee of the Whole meets Jan. 26, and we are calling on the community to make public comment.
The lack of action is particularly UNACCEPTABLE, given:
A Black San Franciscan remains more than 10 times as likely to be arrested as a white San Franciscan – and a Black San Franciscan is more than four times as likely to be arrested as a Hispanic San Franciscan (cited racial categories are from SFPD) – by the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD);
