How to find a COVID-19 vaccine shot: Volunteer-run site flags open spots in Washington state

How to find a COVID-19 vaccine shot: Volunteer-run site flags open spots in Washington state April 5, 2021 at 3:52 pm In a bootcamp that launched in January, University of Washington School of Nursing students train other UW students and faculty who hope to help in COVID-19 vaccinations. (Kiyomi Taguchi / University of Washington Photo) In 10 days, Washington state will open up COVID-19 vaccinations to anyone 16 and over who wants a shot. The question is, will you be able to find one? After a bumpy rollout of vaccine distribution, the state is hitting its stride, administering 57,000 doses per day on average. And it’s getting easier to find providers with ready doses. The volunteer-run CovidWA.com site has launched a tool that sends text notifications of nearby, newly released appointments. The service is free to anyone who signs up. The platform, which updates every five minutes, also has a Twitter feed broadcasting open spots.

COVID-19 vaccine seekers will need to 'pack their patience' when Washington state opens appointments to all 16 and older

Print article SEATTLE The minute Kirsten Rogers got a push notification on her phone that she would soon be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine, she and her husband started looking for an appointment. They, like all Washingtonians 16 and older, will be able to get in line for a coveted shot on April 15 after Gov. Jay Inslee announced this week the state would throw open eligibility for more than 6 million people. But when Rogers went online to secure a time, she kept hitting dead ends. Websites crashed and sites that did work didn’t yet have appointments after April 15. “It’s exhausting to be told we can get vaccinated, but hitting walls at every turn on booking appointments,” said Rogers, who lives in Seattle.
