ALLIANCE The University of Mount Union Department of Music invited Maestro Eduardo Valdes, former principal tenor at the Metropolitan Opera and Mount Union alumnus, to host a master class April 10.
Peyton Zamarelli a soprano from Beloit performed the piece “Batti, batti o bel Masetto.”
The event consisted of 10 vocal students performing and working with Valdes in front of a distanced live audience. Each student was able to sing with him for 25 to 30 minutes at a time. The students believe that even in a short amount of time that their technique had grown substantially.
“This was an absolutely amazing experience,” Zamarelli (’22) said. “Not only was it a complete treasure to hear live music again, but my voice felt completely transformed after working with Maestro Valdes. He is a true master of his craft.”
