When Pewaukee Police Officer Brett Markut was stationed in Ukraine with the National Guard for a year, he received an enormous amount of support from back home. Markut returned to the States in October 2020 and nominated the village of Pewaukee Police Department for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.
