After a contentious election period dealing with misinformation, there has been a growing debate over the role social media companies should play when it comes to online censorship and dealing with harmful content. Services such as Twitter and Facebook have been under intensified pressure to take a tougher stance, particularly around President Trump and supporters claiming massive election fraud, by adding warning labels to content deemed false or suspending users that have violated the community guidelines.
