Sedalia Police Reports For April 5, 2021

Early Monday morning, Sedalia Police initiated a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for expired registration. Upon contact with the driver and occupant, Officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and marijuana paraphernalia and two marijuana joints were found. A city summons was issued to Megan E. Stevens, 27, of Green Ridge for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with a court date. Both Stevens and the driver were released from the scene.
Sunday morning, Officers responded to the Prime Time Store, 216 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to an assault that had just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and found the injured victim in the parking lot. The suspect is known to the victim. No contact has been made with the suspect at this time. Charges for Assault in the 3rd Degree will be sent to the prosecutor for review.

Early Thursday morning, an SUV was stopped at West Broadway and South Harrison Street for moving violations and no license plate lights. After an investigation, the driver was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. A passenger was arrested on a Texas no bond Probation Violation warrant. Nathan Rutherford, 41, of Keneohe Hawaii, was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on the warrant and a 24 hour hold on a state charge of Fugitive From Justice. Lynette D. Ehlers, 39, of Sedalia, was transported to the Sedalia Police Headquarters for further testing and then released to a sober person. Ehlers was issued a municipal court summons for Driving While Intoxicated with a court date.

Last Thursday morning, Sedalia Police were notified of a sex crime between juveniles that occurred in the 2400 block of South Kentucky. The case was investigated, and no charges are being sought.

Sunday morning, Officers responded in the area of North Osage and West Pettis for possible gun shots. Upon arrival, Officers were not able to find a victim at the scene and there were no witnesses willing to identify. The Bothwell Emergency Room reported a gunshot wound to a subject that was admitted there. Officers identified the victim, Marquoi D. Staten, who was medically stable, and he wished to pursue charges.

Sunday evening, Sedalia Police performed a traffic stop on a green Ford SUV, as the license plate was expired. The traffic stop took place in the area of West 12th Street and South Osage Avenue. Officers spoke to the driver, and then performed a computer check through Dispatch, where it was learned that he had a felony probation violation warrant from Johnson County on original charges of Tampering With A Motor Vehicle. Tony L. Lawson, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail with a $15,000 cash only bond.
