World Art Dubai Awards recognise and celebrate local and global talent 12 Apr 2021 Muhammad Yusuf, Features Writer World Art Dubai 2021, considered the region’s most accessible and affordable art fair, has revealed the winners of its coveted award categories during the four-day event at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC, Apr. 7 – 10). The show featured more than 2,000 artworks from over 250 artists and galleries from nearly 30 countries, with visitors over the weekend enjoying an array of features including digital, wearable and sustainable art, a collection created by Dubai Police, as well as a series of engaging workshops. The event championed inclusivity, with prizes awarded to emerging artists, photographers and children.

Little did one know that two back-to-back editions of World Art Dubai, the region’s most accessible and affordable retail art fair, would happen during the pandemic! The seventh edition of the fair opened this Wednesday and would run until Saturday, and it has once again proved the city’s commitment towards the art. The event is known to offer something fresh and exciting in each edition, and its 2021 edition has been no different.

Just a few minutes into it was enough to convince me that hope had returned to the world of arts as well. The ninth edition of the annual Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival (RAKFAF) with the theme of Hope, which opened on February 6, is just what the art calendar needed; with the artists thrilled to be once again at the Al Jazirah Al Hamra Heritage Village, RAK.
