GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador, Dec. 9, 2020 /PRNewswire/ Today, satisfying a ruling of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the highest court for human rights in the Americas, President Lenín Moreno, on behalf of the State of Ecuador, publicly recognized responsibility for failing to protect Paola Guzmán Albarracín, a 16-year-old girl, from the systemic violence and sexual abuse she suffered by her school s vice-principal, Bolivar Espín.
During the public event, the President apologized to Paola s mother, Petita Albarracín, who fought since 2002 to bring justice for her daughter and awarded her Paola s high school diploma posthumously.
