off to a dramatic start. the former suburban chicago police officer is charged with killing his third wife, kathleen savio. the prosecution s first witness, savio s neighbor, sobbed in the courtroom when she saw a photo of kathleen s body and described finding her in a dry bathtub. they re trying to frame him for an accident. reporter: peterson s defense told jurors that kathy slipped, fell, hit her head on the bathtub, and died, case closed. her death was ruled an accidental drowning. when peterson s fourth wife, stacy, disappeared in 2007, savio s remains were exhumed and her death reclassified as homicide. we had her exhumed for a reason. so there would be no more of this nonsense. reporter: savio s family was in court as the prosecution told the jury that the evidence will show savio was murdered, and it was staged to look like an accident. stacy peterson s family believes that as well. they re both very fearful for their lives.
