It has come to my attention that the numerical designations given to buildings in this series may be misinterpreted.
On my Facebook page, a reader asked how the “Cocoon House,” last week’s entry, could only be my 72nd-favorite building?
It’s not. Think of the designations as serial numbers.
Nor is St. Petersburg’s Open-Air Post Office my 73rd favorite building in Florida. Like all the other buildings, it doesn’t have a “ranking.” The “Florida Buildings I Love” are like children in a very large family. I love them all the same.
Well, pretty much. The Chapell-Lifeso House in Lido Shores is No. 1 on the list and, I admit, I am partial to that postmodern fantasy of shape and color. I like it much more than, say, Sarasota’s Municipal Auditorium (No. 20), but let’s keep that quiet.
