The SCV Chamber encourages residents to submit “Salute to Patriots” nominations to honor those that have served the country and the Santa Clarita Business community.
During Hispanic Heritage Month this year, Assemblywoman Suzette Valladares, R-Santa Clarita, will recognize constituents of Hispanic descent who have contributed to their community in the 38th Assembly District.
The monthlong celebration of Hispanic heritage starts Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 15. The United States has been celebrating this time as Hispanic Heritage Month since 1968.
“We are accepting nominations for any outstanding Latino that has been contributing to our community,” said Patsy Ayala, a representative with Valladares’ office. “I want to open this nomination to the community because probably there’s an outstanding student that we don’t know is there.”
Ayala said the Assemblywoman will honor a total of 30 people, or one each day during the month, with a special recognition in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled a plan that would spend about $1.5 billion of the state’s $75.7 billion surplus in grants of up to $25,000 to support small businesses, according to state officials this week.
The plan, which would bring the amount allocated in recent months for grants to $4 billion, is intended to help thousands in their post-pandemic economic-recovery efforts, which Newsom told business leaders would make it the largest state program of its kind in the country.
The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce was among the voices advocating for more support for small businesses, including Newsom’s proposal, to help owners get back on their feet as soon as possible.

SCV Chamber Business Choice Awards Nominations To Close Wednesday
The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce is set to close nominations for its annual Business Choice Awards on Wednesday, before the Jan. 28 event.
“At our Annual Awards & Installation, we recognize individuals for their entrepreneurial spirit or if they are excelling and making an impact in their field, as well as a business who is setting an example and leading the way,” wrote Peter Warda, vice president of the Chamber.
Nominations are currently open and will close on Wednesday, Dec. 23. The SCV Chamber is urging Santa Clarita residents to submit a form either about their own business or a business they know of, or both.
