An impressive group of local dignitaries showed up for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the recently opened Nutmeg Fudge Company at 20 East Main St. Joining owner Kristy Barto in celebrating her new business were Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone, Rep Michelle Cook, Fire Chief Peter Towey, City Planner Martin Conner, Assistant Planner Jeremy Leifert, and Economic Development Director Rista Malanca.
Barto said, “It was a wonderful turnout and I was so happy to have those who helped me be recognized as well. It’s been an incredible learning experience getting here!”
Mayor Carbone, who described Barto as “innovative”, has tasted many of the fudge flavors, and declared the Mexican dark fudge and Butter Beer her favorites. In addition to 22 flavors of fudge, the shop offers chocolate truffles, molded chocolates, brittles and ice-cream. Shop hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and Noon to 7p.m. on Sunday

(TNS) Getting a permit from a land use office or building department can be a detailed process. Applications, maps, photographs and records of site visits and inspections, all must be documented.
Now, the city s land use and engineering departments are getting new software to streamline the process.
City Council members heard a presentation on two software vendors that specialize in permits and all that they entail, and voted to have Mayor Elinor Carbone work with one of the vendors, Central Square Technologies, to become part of City Hall operations.
