The Sault Ste. Marie Professional Firefighters Association and the city have inked a contract agreement.
The Memorandum of Settlement was reached between the two parties in a freely bargained agreement, a report to council stated.

“Historically, negotiations between the city and SSMPFFA have proceeded to lengthy interest arbitration processes, with awards being finalized long after the end of the negotiated term,” Peter Niro, director of human resources said.
The two-year agreement with wage adjustments came into effect Feb. 1, 2019 at 1.35 per cent and Aug. 2, 2019 at 0.68 per cent.
